Eclipse:
An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when an astronomical object is temporarily obscures, either by passing into the shadow of another body between it and the viewer. This is a type of syzergy (a straight line configuration of three celestical bodies in the gravitational system).
One type of eclipse is a lunar eclipse. This happenes when the earth's shadow falls on the moon. The event can only happen in the midst of a full moon. Another type is a solar eclipse. This occurs when the moon is between the earth and the sun the shadow of the moon may fall upon the earth. A Total solar eclipse is when the suns light is completely blocked by the moon. During an eclipse in the inner, coned-shaped part of the shadow, the umbra, sunlight is completely blocked. In the outer part of the shadow, the penumbra, sunlight is only partially blocked.
